As usual the Ironfest
2010 program of events will include
Jousting, a Napoleonic Era Battle re-enactment event, an historical
program,
an eclectic musical program featuring four stages, a performance program,
blacksmithing, auto exhibitions, wood chopping competitions,
kids activities and lots more.
Most of the events from last year will be repeated but not all.
Wiradjuri aboriginal younger, and current GLATSIC President, Ceane Towers will conduct the 'Welcome to Country' ceremony at 10.30am on Saturday 24th.
This ancient ceremony has been conducted through time immemorial by indigenous peoples across the continent to welcome visitors to their land.
Welcome to Country Ceremony
The Welcome to Country Ceremony will start with Ceane Towers and Aunty Gloria Rodgers doing Welcome to Country speech in ‘Wiradjuri’ language – together.
Bob Sutor and Troy Blow plays the didgeridoo, Bernard claps the sticks, while Ceane does a ‘Wiradjuri’ traditional clearing to clear the air for the start of the Iron Festival around a real contained fire.
An Aboriginal dance group who are sitting in a circle stand up and prepare for the clearing dance ‘Darug’ – music by Jacinta Tobin (live), holding their gum leaves.
The dancers will then perform the Blue Mountains bush fire dance, Jacinta Tobin singing live Daruk language. The dancers perform the gathering and blessing of food demonstration. Dancers perform their animal depictions. The emus, bird, owl, snake, kangaroo, lizard, tree, wash demonstration. (Both CD music and Didgeridoo played by Troy Blow and Bob Sutor).
Ironfest Festival Director, Macgregor Ross, to speak & pay respect to the opening of the festival.
The Middle Ground Belly Dancers then perform and demonstrate the sharing & teaching of different cultures.
Jacinta Tobin, a ‘Darug’ woman, then ends the ceremony by singing her beautiful songs.
Juxta-POSE Dreams of hope and promise conjure harsh realities....political maneuverings dress
in sleek satin luxuries and flaking decaying detritus.
The inaugural Ironfest Ballroom Art Exhibition, entitled Juxta-POSE,
will be held over three days at the Lithgow Showground (inside Ballroom)
as part of the Ironfest 2010 Main event, and will feature work in all mediums
by artists from the local region and beyond.
For reasons outside our control, the Inaugural Insane Cycles
Ironfest Skatefest, to be held at the Lithgow Skate Park,
as part of this years Ironfest (April 24 - 26), is cancelled.
Ironfest presents the annual Lithgow Region Farmers Market as part of the Ironfest Main Event.
Come and meet the Central West Blue Mountains region's best makers of the finest boutique products, including olive oil, wine, cheese, organic fruit & vegetables, bread, and much more.This is a great opportunity to purchase great produce direct from the maker/ grower.
The Farmers Market is located adjacent to the Cooke's Plaza Stage.
Creativity is bountiful in the KIDS SHED where colour and music merge!
Here the young and young at heart can immerse themselves creatively, watch a show,
make a mask, have a go! Or just chill out, ah...bliss
A little something for everyone can be found at the KIDS SHED.
Presented by Lydia Clare & Darryl Bowen from Doozi Do'z Entertainment,
the Kids Shed provides a space where the kids can perform, make art & music.
THE GOOD FOLK
This Bush-band has it all, the songs, the sound and all the moves.
Everyone is invited to join this band of merry folk for a good old-fashioned sing along and percussion session.

Kurrajong duo Lydia Clare and Darryl Bowen will have you boppin’ along to a great mix of folk and country favorites.

Duo Barbara Webb and Kevin Adams are both brilliant multi-talented musicians and seasoned performers.
Together they create an ambience with their original celestial style of Jazz/Folk music.
You will be entranced by their lyrics and vocal harmonies, spellbound as Barbara’s fingers dance on the violin.
ROWEN CLASSEN
Rowan Classen’s high energy and fun antics are unforgettable! You’ve never seen the Bavarian slap dancing
until you’ve seen this performance. There’s even a chance for you to have a go yourself.

When he isn’t entertaining he is teaching guitar, music therapist for the disabled and the musical director
of youth workshops ‘School of Rock’. An amazing contributor to the music industry!

Ironfest aims to provide as many hands on experiences as possible,
particularly in the area of working with metal.

The Leura Bodgers' Workshop
Traditional pole-lathe greenwood turning as used by the English Bodgers.
The 2 hour hands on workshop explores all techniques from splitting a log to turning a chair leg or making other practical articles for your home or workshop.
Cost is $50 for the session.
Sessions each day
from 12 noon to 2pm
Bookings are advised, just register up near the woodchop.
Chainmail

Micah has been constructing chainmail over the last year or two.
He is working on a full vest. He uses wire, pliers, boltcutters and a cordless drill.
He will demonstrate chainmail construction on the Saturday.
Watch out for him in the Blacksmiths area

Lithgow Prize for Photography
award and exhibition 2010
Presented by Ironfest, the 2nd Annual Lithgow Prize for Photography will be held as part of the
11th Lithgow District Ironfest over the Anzac weekend of April 24, 25,26 at the Lithgow Showground.
The exhibition of photographs will be on display at the showground event
and also online at www.ironfest.com.au as a virtual exhibition.
The Lithgow Prize for Photography provides an opportunity for photographers to showcase
and offer their work for sale to a wide audience over the Ironfest weekend.
The award attracts a wide range of photographers crossing from traditional forms
through to experimental with both hobby and established photographers being involved.
The inclusion of entry categories recognises and rewards all forms of photography
with the award exhibition aiming to encourage and inspire photographers exploring their world
through the vast realm of the photographic medium.
